The CPRA has come together to spread awareness among the 49 buildings having 4,500 flats in both old and new Cuffe Parade area and will be conducting meetings with society members on August 30 to inform them about the BMC's decision to not collect waste if it is not segregated
The Cuffe Parade Resident's Association (CPRA) is now gearing up to tackle Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's diktat that it will not collect waste from housing societies, starting next month, if garbage is not segregated. The association plans to urge their 3,400 members to segregate wet and dry waste which will be dumped into a pit formed inside their garden to make compost. Also, it will be used later as manure.
The CPRA has come together to spread awareness among the 49 buildings having 4,500 flats in both old and new Cuffe Parade area and will be conducting meetings with society members on August 30 to inform them about the BMC's decision to not collect waste if it is not segregated.
"We are taking help from experts to develop a pit in the CPRA garden and we will ensure that the wet waste is collected and decomposed by using bacteria which will be later used as manure," said Padmakar Nandekar, General Secretary, CPRA.
"We had also given out white bags to residents for collecting dry waste and black bags to collect wet waste but now we plan to distribute cans to housing societies so that wet waste is segregated and dumped inside the garden pit," said Nandekar.
Vijay Bhimrajka, President of CPRA said, "We are sure that we will get a good response and the residents will support us in this initiative. We believe in a clean and green environment and this initiative will also lead to production of manure which will help the growth of trees in our gardens." He further added, "The society members meeting will be convened and they will be taken into confidence so that our initiative gets a boost."
