MUMBAI
According to the police sources, victim Abhay Bongirwar is an executive director of a reputed bank with its headquarter in Cuffe Parade
The Cuffe Parade police have come across another credit card fraud case wherein the fraudster calls victims posing as 'bank executives' seeking details of their debit/credit card to siphon off money from their bank account. However, this case is unusual wherein a Mumbai-based executive director of a reputed bank has been duped by such fraudster and lost Rs 29,165 from his credit card.
According to the police sources, victim Abhay Bongirwar is an executive director of a reputed bank with its headquarter in Cuffe Parade, The 58-year-old Bongirwar was fallen prey to a fraudster caller and shared details of his bank account to a fraudster who posed as customer care executive of a bank in which the victim has an account. Believing that the call is genuine, the victim unsuspectingly shared the bank details. Police sources said as he realised about the fraudulent transactions after receiving text alerts from the bank, Bongirwar approached police station with a complaint stating that around Rs 29,000 have been debited from his account fraudulently after the call.
A case was then registered in Cuffe Parade Police Station under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
The senior police officer on the condition of anonymity confirmed the case and said "recently, the victim had received a call asking him to share details for credit card points. Unsuspectingly the victim shared all the details, using which the caller transferred money in other accounts via net banking. We have got the details of the transactions, our probe is on to track the fraudster caller but in such cases, fraudsters use call spoofing techniques to remain untraceable. The bank never calls customers asking details even we are surprised how such a senior bank official has fallen prey to such fraud and shared details,"
