While the Samta Nagar police arrested a 29-year-old bus conductor for allegedly raping his minor neighbour on May 12 , the Tardeo police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly showing his 11-year-old neighbour pornographic clips on his mobile phone.

In the first case, the police claimed that on May 11, Mahendra Chatur, who works at the Poisar bus depot in Kandivli (East), went to the victim’s house in the Janta Nagar area at Bihari Tekdi, under the pretext of giving her uncle’s phone. Finding her alone at home, he allegedly raped her.

When the victim told her mother what had happened, the latter along with local residents thrashed Chatur. He was later arrested.

“The girl had been raped by another man around a year ago,” said Anant Kenjale, senior police inspector of Samta Nagar police station.

In the second case, Mahalaxmi resident Sandeep Gopal was standing at a bus stop opposite the railway station when he noticed his 11-year-old neighbour also waiting for a bus.

“Gopal took out his phone and began showing her pornographic videos,” said an officer from Tardeo police station.

The girl rushed home and informed her uncle about the incident, who lodged a police complaint.

The police traced Gopal and arrested him, but he was later released on bail.
