MUMBAI
Dharavi police on Tuesday arrested 35-year-old Kavita Nadar and launched a manhunt for her husband, Kumar Nadar, for allegedly duping around 7-8 people of approximately Rs 25 lakh in the last few months.
The police arrested the woman after one of her friends approached Dharavi police on Monday alleging that the couple had duped her of Rs 4 lakh and were planning to run away from the locality.
According to complaint filed by Marystella Nadar (29), Kavita and her husband have been living in the locality for the last 10 years and were known to her. However, a few months back, Kavita and Kumar approached her seeking Rs 4 lakh as loan stating that they were in financial crisis. When Marystella hesitated to loan them money, Kavita started crying and finally she lend the couple Rs 4 lakh.
A few days back, when Marystella demanded the money back, the couple started evading her.
"Kumar fled from Dharavi a few days back, and even Kavita was set to run away. We arrested her on Tuesday morning before she could flee," said police sub inspector M Patil.
"We have received more complaints about the couple from people whom they have duped. We believe the total amount would come to around Rs 25 lakh. We are investigating the matter." The police have booked Kavita and Kumar for cheating.
