Around 25 companies have pooled in Rs2 crore for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s malaria control drive.
The BMC, with the help of these companies, procured 1.7 lakh ml of malaria larvicide oil, mosquito nets and rapid diagnostics kits. The companies had been running an awareness campaign with the BMC as part of corporate social responsibility.
The civic body on Tuesday also released a 2-minute movie on malaria awareness. The movie, both in Hindi and Marathi, features Nana Patekar, and was funded by Delta Systems. A steep decline can be seen in the number of malaria cases, affirmed municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya.
The BMC is now contemplating plans to broadcast the short film in theatres. Under the banner of Mumbai Arogya Abhiyaan Kendra, the civic body also plans to produce more films on public welfare issues.
