Bheda is a prime witness in the alleged fake encounter case of Ramnarayan Gupta, alias Lakhan Bhaiya, in which several police officers have been arrested including senior police officer Pradeep Sharma.

The police on Monday had informed the Bombay high court that the Navi Mumbai police commissioner is personally monitoring the investigations. The police also submitted a report of their investigations being conducted before a division bench of justices PV Hardas and MN Gilani.

Bheda’s wife Aruna has moved the court with a habeas corpus petition stating that her husband has been missing since March 13 after he left his Vashi residence. Gupta was shot dead allegedly in an encounter by the police on November 11, 2006, in Versova. A special investigation team, formed to probe the case, had arrested Sharma and 21 others.
