"The incident might have taken place between 2.30am and 3.20am. We were informed by the locals around 3.45am," said an officer.
The Thane police will probe the role of Subiya Bharmar, the youngest surviving sister of Hasnain Warekar, the 35-year-old chartered accountant who killed 14 of his kin in cold blood in his Kasarvadavali home on Saturday night. According to Subiya's statement to the police, she pretended to be dead when her brother slit her throat and started screaming to attract the neighbours after Hasnain had killed himself at the end.
The team investigating the gruesome killings did come across a question which highlighted the possibility of Subiya being part of the whole incident. Did she kill everyone and hanged Hasnain? Joint CP Ashutosh Dumbare, however, would say no. He reasoned by stating that she could not have hanged a heavy man like Hasnain on the staircase and planted the cleaver in his hands.
Dumbare, however, said: "She was the last one to reach his home as Hasnain picked Subiya up from her residence. She is suspected to have not consumed the sedative but we are probing the case through all angles. We will question her after she recovers completely."

Hasnain, the deceased killer, has been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and under Arms Act along with a case of suicidal death.
Hasnain had invited his sisters and their children for a feast and killed them one by one. He also killed his parents, wife and daughters before hanging himself near the staircase of the same building.
