His body was found in an isolated area of Aarey on May 9 by his father, PI Narendra Shinde.
More than a week after 20-year old Atharva Shinde, the son of a police inspector, was found killed in Aarey Colony, the police have said they have not made any headway in the case.
His body was found in an isolated area of Aarey on May 9 by his father, PI Narendra Shinde.
Since the incident, the police have been questioning the people who had attended the birthday party where Atharva was last seen — and heard from by his family — but they have been unable to get any leads.
"We have not been able to ascertain the motive behind Atharva's killing, or the circumstances that led to his death. We have questioned almost all the people who had attended the party held in a bungalow at Aarey Colony on the night of May 7, but have not got much to come to a conclusion," said a police officer who is privy to the investigation, adding that his medical reports are under scrutiny. The officer spoke on the condition of anonymity.
On May 7, Atharva had left his Kandivali home, saying he was going to Aarey Colony to attend a birthday party of a friend. Later that night, Atharva messaged his father saying he would stay back with his friends. When Atharva's phone remained switched off the next day, his family searched for him at Aarey Colony and found his body near a lake, 500 metres from the party venue.
As per the police, a scuffle had broken out among the party goers around 7.30 am on May 8, and Atharva had sustained severe injuries in the incident.
