Cops arrest man for killing lover’s husband

The Mumbai crime branch on Tuesday arrested a 31-year-old man for killing the husband of the woman he had a brief affair with. The victim’s body was found in a nullah in  Poisar area of Kandivli (E) on  September 20.

Initially, the Samta Nagar police had registered a case of accidental death, but his post-mortem report revealed that he had a fractured neck, which clearly meant that he had been murdered.

The police said Ghanshyam Vishwakarma, the deceased, was a carpenter and had been missing since September 16. He left his house around 7.30pm after receiving a call from an unidentified person who claimed to need his services for carpentry work. His family registered a missing persons complaint with the police when he did not return home.

During the course of their investigation, the police suspected the involvement of one Shyambahadur Yadav, who was well known to the family.

On being interrogated, Yadav said he has known the Vishwakarma family since 2007 and used to take tuitions for the victim’s children. Later, he started having an affair with Ghanshyam’s wife and when Ghanshyam found out about their affairin 2010, he insulted them in front of the locals and would often beat and taunt his wife and children even though they had ended the affair.

The accused further said that he had been planning the murder since 2011 and had kept his childhood friend Pramod Verma, , a resident of Poisar, informed. On September 16,  Verma called Ghanshyam to his house, after which the duo strangulated him and dumped his body in the nullah.

Verma is still at large and the police have launched a manhunt to trace him.
