According to the Khadakpada police, constable Sharad Thakur's (28) marriage was fixed with a 17-year-old Kalyan girl, an arts student from the Birla college. Soon, the two got engaged. Thakur then invited the girl to his house on the pretext of helping his ailing mother. Then he forced himself upon her.

"later, he demanded gold and a bike, saying otherwise his family would cancel the event. He even threatened to defame my family, if we failed to meet his demands," said the girl.

"His family also failed to return the gold ring that was given at the time of engagement. So we have filed a complaint," she added.

Investigation officer SB Mainkar said, "We have registered the case under section 354(A) (molestation), 420 (cheating) and 406 (breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and under the Dowry Prohibition Act."
