MUMBAI
Anonymous tweeple with weird and humorous names have become extremely popular on the social networking site.
Jal_Kukdi has around 5,000 followers and Gabbar Singh has gathered 53.5K followers.
The two are no godmen or leaders but are tweeple who have made a mark in the online social networking site by their whacky name.
Dr Shweta Puri, a resident of Yamuna Nagar (Haryana), justifies her twitter handle Jal_Kukdi. “We do make sense in real life so I wanted an interesting identity on the social platform. In Haryanvi, Jal-kukdi is someone who easily gets jealous. It suits my ranting on national issues. Now, my friends and family also call me by this name,” says Dr Puri, who is now pursuing MD. Her Twitter bio-data reads — a rare variant of girl species who hate pink, chocolates, diamonds and asinine arguments.
Gabbar Singh’s sharp wit and his reactions on nation’s burning issues has made him the first celebrated commoner on Twitter in three years.
“For me, anonymity has been a boon. Assuming a fictitious villain’s name generated curiosity among the twitterati,” says Singh, whose real name is Abhishek Asthana and he works in Delhi.
The Twitter world also has Gabbarni, a law graduate, who tweets about anything. Her profile shows she has 12,000 followers.
Hundreds of youngsters have catchy Twitter identities. “It helps us to remain exclusive and noticeable,” says a girl who tweets with the name ‘WittyTwitty’.
“Anonymity gives you real freedom to express your views on any issue,” says an Indian Administrative Services officer posted in Mumbai.
With tweets laced with sarcasm and insight on all topics, the tweeple are popular in the social networking site and have a huge fan following.
DonKey has 2,337 followers on Twitter. He uses a donkey’s caricature in place of his photo. “This is the face of the common man who is being fooled since 1947 in the name of development, caste, religion and food,” says DonKey, who wants to remain anonymous.
Catchy IDs like Trouble, Bewakoof, LazyCrazy, notorious, Furious, Not That Arnab and Yo Yo Diggy Singh help them to climb the popularity ladder, which is measurable in number of followers and retweets. “Sensibility, humour and weirdness are parameters on the social platform where 140 characters decide your popularity,” says a twitterer.
As 140 characters are too less for their creativity, many of them have their own blogs and websites.
