The forum has also directed the dentist to pay Rs25,000 towards the complainant's mental agony and Rs15,000 towards her litigation cost.

According to complainant Saroj Chedda, she had approached Dr Jayesh Dube for treatment. Dubey explained the entire treatment to her and also told her how much it would cost.

In April 2005, Dubey started the treatment by cleaning her teeth. He then fixed dentures. However, a few days later, Chedda developed a terrible pain in her teeth. She has claimed that when she approached the dentist, he prescribed her some painkiller and said the first few days after treatment are painful for any patient.

Days after, when the pain aggravated, she again approached Dubey. It was then that an X-ray of her teeth revealed pieces of broken teeth in her gums, which were not removed before fitting the dentures.

Chedda then approached the forum seeking compensation.

However, when the forum asked the dentist to file his reply, he claimed he had not adopted any unfair trade practice and that the complainant had made false allegations against him.

The forum, after going through the evidence, found the dentist guilty of offence and penalised him.
