The arrested constable has been identified as Chandrakant Ghadge, 45.

According to the ACB, the Mankhurd police had registered a case against one of the relatives of the complainant. “In order not arrest complainant's relative in the said case and remove his name from the police record, Ghadge demanded bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant and later settled for Rs 90,000,” said an ACB officer.

The complainant then approached the ACB in this regard and his information was verified on June 7.

A trap was laid on Wednesday, when Ghadge had called the complainant in a bar with the first installment of Rs 50,000. “Ghadge was arrested while he was accepting the money from the complainant,” the officer said.
