Attacking chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for being on his state-wide pre-election tour despite the floods in Mumbai and surrounding areas, the state Congress has accused the state government of a poor response to the crisis.

"Mumbai is choked due to the rains. Floods have occurred even in areas like Kolhapur and Sangli due to heavy rains. People have lost their lives. The chief minister is responsible for mitigation measures in this situation as the head of the state," charged former MP Nana Patole, who is the chairman of the state Congress campaign committee.

Patole, who switched from the Congress to the BJP and back to the Congress, said Fadnavis should have monitored the situation as the chief of the disaster management committee, but was instead touring the state as part of the 'Maha Janadesh Yatra' launched last week.

Patole added that he would meet chief secretary Ajoy Mehta in Mantralaya on Monday with leaders from the Mumbai Congress to get details about the rescue and relief initiatives and disaster management measures being taken by the state government. "The Congress will take lead in disaster management and for helping the flood affected," said Patole.
