In bid to counter the growing influence and to stop the BJP's juggernaut, the Maharashtra Congress party has come up with an innovative idea, 'own the constituency' for the senior Congress leaders.

Congress hopes that the 'own the constituency' idea will help them to get some decent numbers in the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly polls. "We had meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi where it was decided that rather than concentrating on losing seats, we will focus on winning. We have got the 40 sitting MLAs while in the 20 seats, we had lost with very thin margin of 5,000-10,000 votes in 2014. If we concentrate on these specific seats, Congress party can at least muster 60 seats," said senior Congress leader.

Nana Patole, chairman of the Campaign Committee for Congress party in state polls, said that they are confident of coming back to power. "We are working on the different strategy and owning the constituency is one of them. The defunct political families are leaving the Oppositions and joining the ruling parties to protect their empires and possible arrests. However, people are with us. Therefore, we are getting overwhelming response to our campaign rallies. We are 100% sure about our victory in the state polls," Patole added.

Senior leader said that each leader has given the responsibility of 5-10 seats. "Ashok Chavan will look after the Nanded, while Maharashtra Congress president Babasaheb Thorat will ensure his and other candidates of party in centre Maharashtra. Prithviraj Chavan will look after the western Satara and Solapur while another senior Congress leader Satej Patil will ensure the victory of his candidates in Kolhapur district. Eknath Gaikwad will look after Mumbai region and Amrish Patil in North Maharashtra," said a source.

Congress leader Shah Alam said, "We may be slow and demoralised but we can steady and honest in our effort. So we will surely defeat the BJP- Sena in this high voltage race."
