In a press statement issued after the results came out on Tuesday, Thakare said that the entire country was in a different mood during the Lok Sabha elections. He went on to say that the by-poll results have proved that the country cannot be fooled by telling lies. Further, the debacle of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, which was termed 'Hindutwa Laboratory', is enough proof that this country is secular and the atmosphere which was prevalent during the Lok Sabha elections was changing. The MPCC president also said that these results have shown that the country will not tolerate autocracy and the voter is wise enough to keep such tendencies at bay.

Briefing media persons, party spokesperson Anant Gadgil said that it is significant that the youth had voted in large numbers in Rajsthan and have backed the Congress. Thakare and Gadgil also expressed confidence that the people of Maharashtra would also take a cue from these by-polls and elect the secular Congress-led alliance.
