The Congress and Shiv Sena both marked the inauguration of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit at Sion hospital on Tuesday with ugly political opportunism and did everything possible to disturb the silence zone norms.
The local Congress corporator Upendra Doshi, and his supporters were upset over the former’s name not being displayed in the invitation card of the programme, while the Sena activists were busy shouting slogans claiming that, the MRI unit has been placed there because of Sena’s efforts.
Congress MP Gurudas Kamath and Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, were supposed to be the chief guests for the programme. However, Uddhav decided to avoid the program at last minute, allegedly for some unavoidable reasons.
“Sena has violated the corporation protocol, according to which the local corporator should head any local level program of BMC. They have purposely put mayor’s name, instead of mine. This is nothing but a dirty effort to take credit for the developmental work, ahead of BMC elections,” said Upendra Doshi, Congress corporator.
The Congress activists later blocked the entry door to the venue, which led to minor scuffle between them and Sena activists.
“There is no attempt to claim the credit. The project has been initiated with everyone’s efforts,” said Shraddha Jadhav. When asked about the scuffle between the Congress and Sena activists she refused to comment. Kamath was unavailable for comment.
