On August 20, Anandroop Banerjee and advocate Sippy Patwari filed for anticipatory bail in Thane court. Banerjee from Thane is said to have married a 26-year-old from Kalyan who worked as an executive secretary with Patwari's law firm in Uthalsar since March 2018.

Her elder sister Neeta (name changed) filed a case against Banerjee alleging that Patwari and Banerjee held the girl captive since past two and a half months. "She returned home in July end and was quiet. Both Patwari and Banerjee kept calling her every few minutes and threatened her over the phone about not revealing something. Or else they would harm her and our family, We have the phone recordings" says Neeta.

The girl who had recovered from a prolonged tuberculosis treatment this year, could not take the stress and was admitted to a private hospital in Kalyan. "But Banerjee and her employer came there, created a ruckus, and took her with them back to Thane," she says. "My sister seems to be brainwashed and is under their influence. She needs to be taken out into a neutral environment to get to the truth," she adds.
