The CNG prices have been hiked since April 1, however there is no need to worry as fares of auto rickshaws and taxis won't increase immediately. The unions have claimed that there has been a marginal affect due to this hike and so no need to demand fare hike, which normally happens in April-May.

"The hike in CNG has resulted in barely 7-8 paise cost of drivers which is manageable. So there is no question of demanding fare hike," said AL Quadros, leader of the Mumbai Taximens Union. There are 55000 black and yellow taxis and 1.39 lakh auto rickshaws registered in RTOs of Mumbai. The price revision will affect nearly 5.6 lakh CNG vehicles which operate in the city and 9 lakh households.

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) stated that the increase would have a marginal impact of Rs 0.05 per km and Rs 0.06 per km on the per km running costs of autorickshaws and taxis. The hike of CNG by Rs 1.23 per kg is marginal and will not effect the drivers. Starting Sunday, MGL increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG). The price has been increased by Rs. 1.23 per kg on CNG and Rs. 1.04 in Standard Cubic Meter (SCM) on PNG in Mumbai.

MGL stated that, "In view of increase in gas purchase costs due to the recent increase in Domestic Natural Gas price by the Government of India; MGL is constrained to increase the basic price of (CNG) and (PNG)."

After the hike, the CNG which was earlier priced at Rs 42.63 per kg will now be Rs 44.22 per kg and PNG which was earlier priced Rs 25.69 SCM for first slab and Rs 31.29 for second slab will be priced at Rs 26.87 SCM for first slab and Rs 32.47 for second slab.
