Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the monsoon and disaster management preparedness of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation at two separate meetings held in Sahyadri Guest House on Tuesday. The BMC made a detailed presentation at the meet. They claimed that they have taken adequate steps to ensure a flood-free monsoon this year.
Civic body officials said that Fadnavis has directed the meteorology department to ensure that the government and other agencies get alerts for heavy rainfall days so that they can be prepared to handle the onslaught. In the meeting, Fadnavis directed that on going work on infrastructure projects like Metro, road repairs, and construction of flyovers be brought to a safe stage by the end of this month and necessary warnings be put up on the same.
As per the presentation, BMC claimed that they have identified 225 spots that are prone to flooding and has taken due precautionary steps in 120 of these spots. The BMC officials said that CM Fadnavis was informed that the BMC has installed CCTVs in these flood-prone locations and they will be keeping a watch over these spots to ensure that steps are taken to avoid waterlogging. KS Ghosalikar, Deputy Director, Meteorological Department, said during the presentation that monsoons have arrived in Kerala and predicted the amount of rainfall Maharashtra may receive, too.
Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority meeting approved the State Disaster Management Plan 2018 and the Drought Management Plan and District Disaster Management Plan were approved, too.
