Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the state government would go ahead with the construction of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the Arabian Sea despite coming under fire for it from certain quarters.

Water from various rivers in the state and soil from all the historic forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was brought to Mumbai on Friday for the ground-breaking ceremony of the project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of the memorial on Saturday. 

The soil and water, which was carried from Chembur Naka to The Gateway of India on Friday evening, was handed over to Fadnavis. Ministers Chandrakant Patil, BJP state unit president Raosaheb Danve and some others were present at the event.

The PM will also perform bhoomi puja of the DN Nagar to Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor and the Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor. Furthermore, he will lay the foundation for flyovers at Kalanagar Junction in Bandra, the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link and attend the bhoomi puja of the proposed elevated road from LBS Flyover to Vakola.
