City lost two to Malaria in July, 752 new cases recorded
Several cases of rain-related illnesses such as dengue and gastroenteritis were also reported in the city in the month July
According to the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, 752 new cases of malaria and two deaths were recorded in July, higher than last year's count of 583 recorded in the same month.
On July 25, a 26-year-old from Jogeshwari died after being in the hospital for three days. According to the BMC, she had a history of fever and was first admitted in a private hospital and was shifted to a BMC-run hospital after her condition worsened. She died due to complications arising from plasmodium vivax malaria infection.
A 45-year-old from Ghatkopar West was the second victim. She suffered from high fever, cough and breathlessness for 15 days. She also had a history of high blood pressure and heart attack. She was admitted in private hospital and after eight days of treatment she passed away on July 29 due to a multi-organ failure.
Several cases of rain-related illnesses such as dengue and gastroenteritis were also reported in the city in the month July.
BMC's health department, said, "To reduce the mosquitoes breeding, we need help from the citizens. People should check that their residential, commercial area are clean and free from mosquito breeding."
