With an aim to create awareness on road safety in an innovative way, a citizens group and college students have come forward to help the police authority.

The road safety campaign started by Mumbai Traffic Police, RTO, V Citizens Action Network got volunteer participation from Thakur Complex Resident's Association (TCRA) and college students. The objective the campaign is to create awareness that road safety is the responsibility of every individual and not just that of the police authority.

The campaign involves commuters to take a pledge and use the hashtag #MySafetyMyLife on social media to upload their selfie with the pledge.

Speaking about the response from the commuters, Sanjay Jaiswal, founder of TCRA, said, "We got a good response. The commuters were interacting with us. The traffic police from the area also joined us to create safety awareness among the commuters."

Students from different colleges joined hands to volunteer for the initiative. Prajval Kataria, student council head of Jai Hind, said, "We also had a meeting with the traffic police to clear our doubts and get facts of the road safety issue. So far, we have taken up the initiative around seven traffic junctions in the south Mumbai area. We wanted to join the initiative because we have seen minor road accidents around our college area."

Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic), Amitesh Kumar, said, "The aim of the campaign is to create awareness of rules and regulations. We wanted the commuters to obey the rules voluntarily so that we don't have to do enforce the commuters."

Sandeep Ohri, another resident, said, "We started an offline and online campaign for the people to upload their selfie with a pledge. In this way, we want to spread the word that it is individual's responsibility to save their life by ensuring to follow road safety rules."
