The board of directors of City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) have approved to pay overtime to class III and IV employees working in the corporation.

The overtime employees will be paid as per recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and will be at par with the salaries paid to employees of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

“There are vacancies in almost all departments of the corporation, and the work is being carried out by 50% of the staff. This has put an additional burden on the officers as well as staff. To complete the work, they have to stay in office beyond their working hours for which they (officers) are being paid overtime. However, class III and IV employees do not enjoy the same privilege,” a Cidco official said.

He added that drivers, security guards, firemen, staff from the cleaning department and others also work beyond their stipulated hours. “Sometimes they are also asked to come to office on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. But they were not paid overtime, due to which they are agitated. They have been pursuing this matter with Cidco Employees Union for the past two-and-a-half years,” the official said.

The board of directors, during their recent meeting, took cognizance of the same and decided to pay overtime to these employees as per pay commission recommendations.

This decision will benefit 196 employees from various departments, and will put an additional burden of Rs25 lakh per month on the corporation’s exchequer. “This decision of the board has given a huge sigh of relief to these employees,” the official added.
