Chitre, who was also a prolific writer, painter and filmmaker, passed away at the age of 71 following an illness.

The exhibition has been organised by Friends of Visual Arts (FVA) in association with the Maharashtra Cultural Centre (MCC). The exhibition will be inaugurated by noted poet Prabodh Parekh on Friday. He will also release a book, Ekun Dilip Chitre, a compilation of articles written by noted people on Chitre.

FVA is an informal group of visual artists which was founded in 1986. Sandesh Bhandare, writer and photographer, who is a member of FVA said, “Earlier we had organised a lecture by Chitre. After that, he also used to participate in our yearly group exhibition. The way Chitre’s life reflects in his poems, it reflects in his paintings too. They are a way to unfold the great persona of Chitre.”

The exhibition will have 26 paintings, including drawings and oil paintings. On Ekun Dilip Chitre Bhandare said, “The book is a collection of articles on Chitre written by many well known people such as Mahasweta Devi, Gulzar, Ashok Vajpayee, Namdeo Dhasal, Bhau Padhye, Ashok Shahane and Sadanand More. The multilingual book has 33 articles. These articles talk about Chitre’s multifaceted personality. Since all these articles on him were scattered, we decided to compile them into a book.”

The exhibition will be on from December 11 to 17 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
