Waiting for Anjali Bhide, 48, at her Bandra house, one notices her dining table covered with packets of karanji and besan ladoo.

They are testimony to the good days that Karanji & More, her four-year-old venture, is witnessing. She isn’t the only one who started her own business once her children grew up. Alpa Ajmera, 40, a Churchgate resident, too, decided to become a businesswoman two years back.

Under Alpa Ajmera, her brand, she makes sweets out of dates and kaju cakes.
Initially, the businesses of these women grew only by word of mouth.

Their customers comprised their families and friends. But once they became members of Idobro, the marketplace for Impact — an exclusive platform for buyers and sellers of social and eco-friendly products to connect communicate and collaborate — their clientele increased.

Chief Impact officer and MD Karon Shaiva says, “We try to promote women entrepreneurs who have the skill and knowledge but no means to reach out and connect.” The product basket includes social and eco-friendly categories in handicrafts, jewellery, apparel, home decor, gift articles, food and more. “We also promote services that contribute to society and the environment.”

Manisha’s by Manisha Dhanani, 45, is a decade-old venture but gained status eight months back once she joined the organisation. She mainly deals with terracotta products and makes jewellery, wall hangings, Ganesh idols, etc. This Diwali, she has introduced kandil-shaped diyas.

Dhanani works from her residence-cum-studio where she has employed six women. Bhide, too, hired 10 women workers to make her homemade sweets this Diwali. Hiring helpers has become a necessity for these women, as the demand for their products  has increased over the past couple of months.
