CBSE paper leak: Parents want probe by top rights panel

Amid a massive uproar triggered by the CBSE paper leak, a nationwide body of parents has approached the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights seeking a probe.

The Indiawide Parents Association wrote to the apex rights panel on Sunday saying that the board's move for re-examination amounted to the violation of child rights and fundamental rights of children.

"The situation is very serious and has created a lot of agony, mental and physical harassment among students which will be affecting their future. Some children might be under mental stress and might take any step," reads the letter.

The Association has asked the NCPCR to take suo motu cognizance of the case. "...summon the CBSE Chairperson, HRD officials, and other state secretaries and conduct a proper enquiry in this case...also request to order a CBI probe in the interest of lakhs of children who will suffer due to the negligence of the CBSE," the letter goes on.

Association president Anubha Sahai said the whole issue has resulted in tremendous stress and anxiety among children and parents. She said, "Students are having to suffer for no fault of theirs. The NCPCR should ensure that there is an investigation into the issue to ensure that students don't suffer. If there have been any lapses from the side of the government, the due responsibility should be taken."
