The State has decided to hand over the probe into the Nanded bomb blasts to the CBI. The blast, which took place at a godown near Nanded on February 9, killed one and injured another.

Stating that probe into an earlier blast case reported in the region had also been handed over the CBI, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) AP Sinha said, “Their involvement will be investigated in the Nanded blasts as well.”

A senior government official said that deputy CM, RR Patil, was under immense pressure from MLAs belonging to the minority community within the NCP for some time now. These MLAs were seeking a CBI probe after fears that the Bajrang Dal and RSS were behind the Nanded blast that occurred in a storage facility where biscuits and pickle jars were kept.

On April 6, 2006, a similar blast took place at the house of a retired executive engineer killing two and seriously injuring three others. The blast claimed the lives of Naresh Rajkondwar and Himanshu Panse, who were probably making the bombs when they exploded.

Three of their associates — Yogesh Deshpande, Maruti Wagh and Gururaj Tupttewar – were seriously hurt. A probe at the residence also revealed a pipe bomb hidden below a sofa set.One Rahul Pande was arrested for the incident, however, released on bail later.
