MUMBAI
The call data records attached by the Central bureau of investigation (CBI) in the supplementary charge sheet of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case have proved that the Gujarat police, with the help of two Andhra Pradesh police officers, abducted Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi and took them back to Gujarat in two Tata Sumo vehicles.
In the supplementary charge sheet (a copy of which is with dna), the CBI has alleged that Sohrabuddin, a small-time criminal, had demanded Rs25 crore as protection money from Vimal Patni, the director of RK Marble, and that is why he was eliminated.
Prosecution claims that it was Patni who had complained to Gulabchand Kataria, then home Minister of Rajasthan, about the alleged threat calls he received from Sohrabuddin.
The CBI claims: “Sohrabuddin had informed Dr Prakash Bandivadekar about his visit to Hyderabad, as he wanted to get his wife treated for some gynaecological problem. However, his movements were traced by N Balasubramanyam, then SP of Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh.”
Balasubramanyam was not only instrumental in arranging accommodation for a Gujarat police official RK Pandiyan from November 21 to November 22, 2005, but had also deputed his subordinate officer G Srinivas Rao to escort the Gujarat police team unofficially.
