A 40-year-old man died in an accident when a car ran over him. The incident took place on Wednesday night when the victim, along with his wife, entered in the building.

The police said, Devang Shah, works a stock broker and lives at Jagmagia building, near Liberty garden in Malad.

“When the couple was walking towards their building, they saw a Maruti 800 speeding towards them. Shah pushed his wife away but could not save himself. He was crushed between the car and the compound wall,” said R Prabhu, inspector, Malad police station.

“Residents of the building gathered and caught the driver Bhavesh Gala, who is a dealer in second-hand cars and had come to the deliver the car to one Nilesh Nagda, who also lives in the same building,” said Prabhu.

“Gala was speeding and, while entering the building, he saw the couple in front of the car and got scared. Panicked, instead of applying brakes, he accelerated,” said another officer.

The resident of the building informed to the police about the incident and also rushed Shah to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police reached on the spot after 15 minutes and arrested Gala under section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
