A 33-year-old Canadian model and artist allegedly pushed the videographer of a flying squad of the Election Commission, who were on election duty keeping a check on all passing vehicles under their jurisdiction on Wednesday.

The accused woman, identified as Sheena Lakhani, also damaged the camera of the squad after which the matter reached the Amboli police, who arrested her. Lakhani claims to be a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) living in Canada.

According to police, on Tuesday evening, the flying squad of the EC along with local police were on Nakabandi duty at Veera Desai Road. At around 12.30 am, Lakhani, who was passing from the same road was stopped by the cops for a routine vehicle check and EC officials were shooting a video of the scene. The model objected to it and told the authorities that she had nothing to do with the elections as she was an NRI and she requested them to let her go after which she was allowed to pass as nothing suspicious was found inside her vehicle.

"An hour later, Lakhani along with two more people on a motorbike, came to the spot and started arguing with EC officials, asking them why they captured a video of her vehicle. Lakhani then screamed and pushed the videographer of the flying squad, demanding that he delete the footage. Despite authorities trying to explain the protocol to her, she refused to calm down," said a police officer.

As Lakhani was not listening to the police and the EC officials, the staff then called the police control room for help and a police team with a female police officer took her to the police station. After receiving a formal complaint from the EC, Lakhani was arrested under section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code," the officer said.

Lakhani was produced before the Bandra Holiday Magistrate Court on Wednesday and was sent to police custody till Thursday. The investigation officer told the court they are yet to verify her claim about being a citizen of Canada and if there are other similar cases filed against her.
