The LT Marg police have arrested a businessman for allegedly planning a theft of gold worth over Rs22lakh at his friend’s office, by planting his man as servant at the office. The police said that in order to avoid police suspicion, he had also accompanied the victim to the police station to lodge the complaint.

The accused has been identified as Dinesh Rawal, 27, a native of Rajasthan.

According to the police, the victim has an office in Zaveri Bazaar and deals in selling of gold and silver. Rawal had employed one Jeetu Rawal at the victim’ office as a servant.

“On May 12, victim had lodged a complaint stating that his servant Jeetu had stolen 1kg of gold worth Rs22.50 lakh from his office. Investigations revealed that Rawal had purposely employed Jeetu at the victim’s place and had together conspired to commit a theft. Dinesh was held from near Kalbadevi Temple,” said an official from LT Marg police station.

Investigations revealed that Rawal and Jeetu had kept the stolen booty at the residences of their friends in the city.

“We have recovered stolen gold worth Rs20.64 lakh. We believe the remaining booty is with Jeetu, who is still wanted in the case and we are putting all efforts to trace him,” said the officer.
