Burglar held by Nerul cops

A 32-year-old man from Kurla who allegedly broke into a house in Nerul, has been arrested by the police on Frirday. One of his accomplices, who was waiting in front of the building to help him out, managed to flee from the spot. The police is on a lookout for him.

According to the police, Babubhai Salath and his associates came to a building at Shirwane area of Nerul around 2.30 pm. While he entered a flat from the main entrance, his accomplice waited at the gate to keep a lookout.

"A few residents of that building got to know about the incident and they raised an alarm. Salath and his accomplice then fled the building in two different directions," said Jagvendrasing Rajput, assistant police inspector from Nerul police station.

Meanwhile, a police team also reached the spot and chased the culprits along with the residents. Finally they managed to get hold of Salath near the Sion-Panvel highway in Nerul.

The police have booked the accused under sections 354, 380, 511 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before the judicial court on Saturday morning and will remain in police custody till March 25.

"The accused was involved in several burglaries that took place in the city in last one year. We have not been able to recover any stolen goods from his possession so far. We are now investigating the case to find out if more people were involved in the crimes," Rajput said.

In another incident, the police have arrested 21-year-old youth who allegedly stole an LCD TV from the society he worked with as a cleaner. The TV has been recovered by the police.
