Brother gets killed trying to save sister from hooligans in Tardeo

The Tardeo police have arrested four people on the charges of killing a 20-year-old boy when he tried to stop one of the accused from eve-teasing his older sister.

Pankaj Sossa, 20, lived with his family in Tardeo’s Tulsiwadi. Every time his sister Bhakti, 27, ventured out of the house, 35-year-old Sadar-e-Alam, owner of a juice centre in the same lane, would pass lewd comments about her.

As on previous occasions, she ignored him on the night of December 26 when he asked her, “Where are you going?” However, the question did not go unnoticed by Pankaj who was standing near by.

He confronted Sadar and asked him to stop bothering his sister. Sadar started bashing up Pankaj. He was soon joined by his relatives Mohammed Wasi Usman Sheikh, 22, and Mohammed Usman Mohammed Bajul Sheikh, 50. When Bhakti tried to pull the men away from her brother, Sadar’s wife Rizwana Sadar-e-Alam Sheikh, 30, held her back.

“While the scuffle was on, Sadar found a bamboo stick lying nearby and hit Pankaj hard on the head in a fit of anger near his left eyebrow. Then, Pankaj collapsed,” said senior inspector Ramesh S Gadade.

He was rushed to Nair Hospital but declared dead before admission. DNA tried to contact Pankaj’s family members but they were too aggrieved to talk.

The Tardeo police have arrested all the four accused and registered a case under sections 302, 341, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and also sections 37(A) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act. All four are in police custody. The men are at the Saat Rasta lock-up, while Rizwana has been lodged at the Nagpada lock-up.
