Brace yourself for paying more on your return journey by Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1. On Thursday, Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) announced removal discount on return journey ticket by Rs 5 starting December 01, 2018.
However, the base fares of Rs 10, 20, 30 & Rs 40 will remain unchanged, and discount on the purchase of monthly pass and store value pass will continue.
The average daily ridership of Metro-1 corridor was around 2.60 lakh in 2015, 3.01 lakh in 2016 followed by 3.25-3.50 lakh daily in 2017 and more than 3.50 lakh daily currently during weekdays.
The Reliance Infrastructure-led MMOPL in a statement on Thursday said, "MMOPL is trying to encourage its commuters using return journey ticket to upgrade to card products, and continue enjoying a similar discount structure. The rationalisation of fares has been done to create a win-win situation, saving time and energy for the commuters."
The MMOPL statement further added, " In the fifth year of our operation, we believe it's time our regular return journey ticket commuters move up the value chain and transition to card product of their choice. Hence, we have marginally reduced the discount encouraging commuters to migrate to cards."
