Borivli families segregate bio-medical waste
They have tied up with several local NGOs in order to recycle various types of waste. The members have been segregating four types of waste — wet, dry, e-waste and bio-medical.
In order to recycle their medical waste, over 500 families from Borivli have started to encourage bio-medical waste recycling in their society compounds.

Speaking about the initiative, Hemant Gavankar, secretary, Abhinav Nagar Society, said, "Every waste generator should make it their responsibility to manage the waste they produce in their house. Society-level segregation will play a major role in reducing the waste at dumping grounds."
"While we kick-started all the four waste segregation methods a few months ago, the members have recently started segregating bio-medical waste seriously after we conducted workshops," added Gavankar
Bio-medical waste consists of items such as sanitary pads, diapers, bandages, plaster casts, hypodermic needles, syringes, and discarded medicines.
