The Central Railway (CR) opened two more Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS) at two new post offices on Tuesday. The post offices are Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli post office and the Antop Hill post office.
CR officials believe this move will help those commuters who reside near these post offices as they will not have to go all the way to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla or Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) stations that are witnessing long queues.
Late last year, the CR had received several complaints from the commuters about the existing PRS centres at post offices. Most of these related to the late opening of such centres. Even as the booking started at 8am, the complaints said, these centres at post offices opened after 9am.
A senior CR official, while speaking with DNA, sought to assure that such problems belonged to the past. “We have written to them (the postal department) and they have assured us that the PRS centres are opening at 8 am. We have not received a single complaint in the recent past. We appeal to the public to use these facilities,” he said.
With the addition of these, the number of India Post PRS locations will increase from 16 to 18.
Out of these 18 locations, 11 are within the city limits. During the current financial year (April 2010-February 2011) the 16 India Post PRS locations in the Mumbai metropolitan region have booked 3,97,387 passengers netting revenue earning of Rs16.30 crore.
