The Bombay High Court quashed and set aside a cheating case registered against singer Shilpa Rao by a USA-based event management company at the Oshiwara police station.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice VK Tahilramani and Justice MS Karnik allowed the petition filed by Rao seeking to quash the complaint pending before the Andheri court.

The complainant, Deep Kumar Vohra, manager at Deep VIP Travels, had alleged that his company got in touch with Rao and co-accused Ankit Tiwari a few years ago and the singers agreed to do a show. Rs 30 lakh was paid to Brotherhood Entertainment, a firm purportedly owned by Tiwari and his brother, in which Rao is a partner.

The complainant alleged that even two years after the money was received, the singers did not meet their commitment.

The petition filed by Rao and the consent term filed by the complainant before the court stated that the matter had been amicably settled between the parties and he did not wish to pursue the case further. The affidavit also stated that he had received a demand draft worth Rs 4,46,633 and had no objection to the case being quashed.
