The Bombay High Court on Friday directed authorities to initiate the process of sealing illegal constructions on a four-acre piece of land in a village of Kalyan taluka, and also issued warrants against the faulty gram panchayat official – the sarpanch and acting sarpanch, respondents in the matter. The court also issued bailable warrants of Rs 10,000 against the accused.

The bench of justices BP Dharmadhikari and AS Kilor stated in their order that the Collector of Thane district, the Sub-Divisional Officer of Kalyan Division, Tahsildar of Kalyan Taluka and the Gram Panchayat of Vasundari village, could have taken the necessary steps to put a seal on the illegal construction. However, the authorities allowed the construction to continue and allegedly got involved in sand mining.

The petition pertains allegedly 47 illegal constructions on the land, which belongs to a 52-year-old woman, a Bandra resident. The woman found that the authorities were not taking action against the offenders and thus, had to approach the court which then warned of action against officials who aided and abetted these constructions.
