Body was loaded onto CST train at Pimpri or Chinchwad

The abandoned trolley bag found at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus with a woman’s body stuffed inside was loaded into the general compartment of the Pune-Mumbai Sinhagad Express either at the Pimpri or Chinchwad railway stations, a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said.

The bag had been found on platform 9 opposite the general compartment of the train, which is the fourth compartment from the engine. The said compartment was opened for passengers at both Pimpri and Chinchwad on its way to Mumbai, the officer said.

GRP personnel stationed at Pimpri, Chinchwad and Pune railway stations have been asked to check Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera footage to trace the persons who boarded the train with the trolley bag.

The Sinhagad Express arrived at CST at 10.10am on Wednesday.  CCTV footage from CST captured two medium built men get off the train at around 10.15am and dump the red coloured trolley bag. GRP personnel noticed abandoned trolley bag 30 minutes later.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman might be  pregnant. However, the post-mortem reports from JJ Hospital rejected this possibility but clarified that the cause of death was strangulation.

The trolley bag with the body of the 30-year-old unidentified woman was found by Ashok Nikhale, head constable of the CST GRP. He was patrolling the station premises when he found the bag after which he informed senior police inspector Surendranath Deshmukh. The GRP have registered a case of murder and further investigations are on.
