The flyover will be 458-metres long and 11.50-metres wide. The cost to build it has been estimated at Rs26.37 crore. The proposal will be presented before the standing committee meeting on Friday for its approval.

The SV Road junction at Goregaon is one of those areas in the city where the road traffic is the worst hit. Haphazard parking of vehicles and unauthorised shops and hawkers at the roadside contribute to the traffic chaos.

Additional municipal commissioner SVR Srinivas said that once the flyover is constructed, it will help ease traffic congestion at the junction considerably.

"Work has been pending for about 15 years because of several issues and permissions. Once it is constructed, it will hugely benefit people who regularly commute to the western suburbs every day, since the current traffic situation there is chaotic," said Srinivas.

A consultant was appointed by the BMC to carry out a feasibility study in the area and based on the consultant's report, the BMC had floated tenders, after which a firm was short listed to carry out the work.

dna had earlier reported that the BMC is planning to construct five grade separators on the link road between Andheri and Borivli at five different traffic bottlenecks.
