In order to do away with delays in giving permission for tree trimming, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take the process of giving permission online. Now, residents can apply for permission to trim trees within a set amount of time through the link available on the MCGM app.

On July 22, a 57-year-old woman from Chembur died after a coconut palm tree had come crashing down on her. The society had already complained about the tree and also paid for its trimming and balancing. However, it was alleged that the contractor appointed by the BMC had done a shoddy work of trimming the tree, which resulted in tree falling.

However, with the online system in place, now, residents can upload photographs of the tree that need to be trimmed to the link available on the MCGM App.

"The BMC's tree department official will visit the site within the stipulated time of uploading the photographs and complaint, and accordingly take a decision," said a senior civic official.

At present, residents have to submit to the ward office photographs of the trees that need trimming. This process is often time-consuming.

Since there is a deadline set to attend to the complaint, the allegation of contractors not doing a proper job won't be an issue.

"We often get complaints regarding the poor work done by contractors which won't be the case anymore," said the official. He added that the complainant can also deposit a fee for the work online and track the status of the work to be done.
