According to the BMC’s licence department officials, the removal of the banners was begun on Monday, and will continue over the next two to three days. “We have removed all the banners from the arterial roads of the city and suburbs today, and the remaining will be removed within the next few days,” said an official from the department.

“Out of the 1,300 banners, nearly 700 banners were put up by various politicians during the 10-day-long festival,” added the official.

The entire city was defaced by these hoardings during the festival, but BMC officials do not have any details of the illegal banners that were removed on Monday.

“We don’t normally count the number of banners while removing them. No complaint has been filed against anybody from any ward with the police for putting up these hoardings,” added the official.Rajendra Bhosale, the deputy municipal commissioner, said,

“Most of the banners were put up with permission during the festival, but we will still check whether there were illegal ones.” The highest number of banners, around 255, were removed from the R (South) ward, which includes Kandivali (East and West).
