As the preparation of the new development plan (DP) has once again been postponed by two years, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to put up the existing DP on its website for the convenience of residents and developers, who will be now able to check what a particular plot was reserved for in the earlier DP.

The DP for 2014-2034 is the planned map for the city's land use over the next two decades. It was supposed to be ready by this year but was postponed by the state government on BMC's request.

However, people can now visit the BMC website and key in the ward, village and the CTS number of a plot to know what it's reserved for in the old DP. Based on that, suggestions and objections can be raised with the DP department.

A senior civic official said people will also soon be able to get the DP remark, a separate document giving complete details on the reservations affecting and abutting the land, or details of any DP road affecting the land. The document will be released at a nominal amount to people requesting for it online. The civic body has appointed an agency at a cost of around Rs20 lakh for the purpose.

The civic body had held ward-wise workshops with citizens, explaining details of various sectors, such as health, slums, open spaces, education and environment, to them, and inviting suggestions from them based on deficiencies in their ward.

Dahisar-based activist Albino Monteiro said people would be more eager to see a draft of the new DP uploaded online. "Most people are aware of the reservations listed in the old DP," he said.

However, the official said the move to upload the old DP on the BMC portal was taken because at least 20 people visit the BMC office every month to get DP remarks. "Now, they can get that sitting at home," the official said.
