As the BMC kick-started prime minister Narendra Modi's 'Clean India' challenge, which was inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao, on Friday, active residents groups in the Bandra-Khar area joined local ward officials to clean up the streets.A day earlier, the civic body had announced that it would include citizens and ALMs in the drive. The H-West ward carried out a cleanliness drive and signature campaign at Khar station on Friday between 11 am and 1 pm, and roped in local citizens' groups H-west Federation and Khar Residents Association.Surindra Khubchandani, a Khar resident, said, "We will lend our full support to the BMC in this initiative. We started with Khar station and will move on to other areas of the locality."Ward officials motivated residents and onlookers who participated in the drive after taking the campaign pledge. On Friday, Rao said he had told the chief secretary and the BMC commissioner Sitaram Kunte to make the campaign more visible."Citizens groups, NGOs in all districts and housing societies in cities should be involved in the campaign. I have told them to identify selected public places which need urgent cleaning and lead the effort from the front," said Rao.
