BMC kick-starts RTE admission registration for schools

Finally, after a long wait on Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has opened the site for schools to start registration for the Right to Education Act 25% quota admissions.

Last year, the BMC started the RTE admission process on February 16 in order to finish admissions for pre-primary and primary. However, a couple of confusing circulars from the state education department flopped the show, delaying the process.

Last year, the total number of applications filed under the quota was 4,076. The admissions then ran into a series of petitions, before the Bombay High Court finally ordered the state government to clear the pending admissions from the first round and conduct another round and allot seats to all children. However, last year's second round was conducted this year, something that irked most city schools due to which a number of students could not get admission on the ground that only a few months were left for the academic year 2015-16 to get over.

Director (primary education), Pune, Mahavir Mane said, "We started registration for schools for the RTE admission process from Wednesday. For parents to fill the forms, we may open the site either on March 9 or 13."
