“We have asked for the patient’s details. We will wait for post-mortem reports before calling it a dengue death,” said Dr Mangala Gomare, epidemiology head of the BMC.Mahendra Yadav, 35, was admitted on Saturday with a very low platelet count. Since doctors were not able to establish the cause of his death, his body was sent for post-mortem. They said that they were surprised to know that the patient had dengue haemorrhagic shock - the fatal complication which leads to death. The city has recorded 748 positive cases and four have died this year, excluding Mahendra.

The BMC’s pesticide department is working round the clock to curb the mosquito menace in the city. The health department of the BMC is also holding awareness programmes in residential societies and have requested people to avoid self-medication and visit doctors if they have fever.
