A major tragedy, however, was averted as the alert slumdwellers ensured that they moved out of the houses with their important documents and gas cylinders. With Damu Nagar slum fire fresh in the mind, the Nayanagar residents carefully helped each other to ensure there was no further damage.

Two water tankers and five fire engines were rushed to the spot immediately. One ambulance was also rushed to the site. No casualties, however, were reported. Meanwhile, another fire was reported at a godown of MGM Hospital in Parel, which damaged all the records of the hospital. Though fire was contained and no casualties were reported, several important documents were lost.
