The Bandra police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of a youth whose body was found inside Mahim causeway on January 4. The arrested accused has been identified as Vithal Shivling Appa. As per the police reports, Appa hails from Gulbarga city of Karnataka and was wanted in the murder case of his brother-in-law. The deceased have been identified as Suraj alias Kalu who was a Mahim resident and was employed as a daily wager in a catering business.

According to the police, on January 4, after the local residents alerted the police about the murder, the police team recovered Suraj's body which was found naked with multiple injuries.

"After the body was sent for post-mortem, the reports identified him as Suraj who was a homosexual. The case was taken up with priority and a total of three police teams were formed to nab the accused who was absconding. The network of police informers was also activated for the same and all the suspects were questioned. After establishing the identity of the deceased, his relatives, friends and neighbours were contacted to connect the dots in a bid to solve the case," said a police officer requesting anonymity.

Going by Suraj's call details records (CDR), the cops deciphered that he used to contact Appa number frequently which deepened suspicion against him.

"On getting a confirmed tip-off about Appa's role behind the crime, one of the police team nabbed him. On being interrogated, he confessed that he and Suraj used to work in the same catering business. Later, the duo established a physical relationship. Later Suraj began threatening him that he would tell everyone about Appa's character and sexual orientation. Infuriated, Appa decided to kill him.
