BJP manifesto to promise drought-free Maharashtra ahead of Assembly polls

The party may propose a new strategy to curb farmers’ suicides, boost farm growth which has witnessed a reduction and to prioritise completion of over 226 irrigation projects

Riding on Modi wave, nationalism and pro incumbency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in its manifesto, is likely to extensively project the state government's achievement in the last five years, especially fulfilment of more than 100 promises including providing quota to the politically influential Maratha community and violence-free state. Party's tag line will be ''Samrudha Maharashtra, Dushkal Free Maharashtra.'' (Prosperous and Drought Free Maharashtra).

A senior BJP leader, who is currently engaged in drafting the party manifesto for 2019 assembly election, told DNA, "The party is currently holding Samwad with people from across sections to craft manifesto. We want to convey the voters that BJP is the party which believes in performance and not in mere making tall promises. The government has made all attempts to fulfil promises give under various 17 chapters in its manifesto for 2014 assembly election.''

Some key promises fulfilled by the BJP-led government comprise installation of CCTV networks in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur, up-gradation and expansion of forensic laboratories, an e-portal and mobile app Apale Sarkar,enactment of the Maharashtra Public Service Assurance Act, modernizing and strengthening the cooperative sector, introduction of innovative Massive Open Online Courses and separate reservation will be introduced for poor and economically backward people.

POLL COMMITMENTS

 The BJP-led state government has already set an ambitious target of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2025 from the present level of $475 billion

Further, the party will elaborately explain the plan to develop water grid for the drought-hit Marathwada which entails an investment of Rs 25,000 crore.

In addition, sustainable agriculture, development of cold chains, higher price for agriculture produce, drip irrigation for sugarcane cultivation and promotion of agri-based industries to transform the rural economy.

Special chapter will be devoted on the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects of over Rs 2 lakh crore in Mumbai Metropolitan Region comprising metro corridors, Nhava Sheva Link, coastal road, elevated railway corridors between Churchgate and Virar and CSMT and Panvel.

The BJP-led government has already set an ambitious target of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2025 from the present level of $475 billion.

Party in its manifesto will give a blueprint in this regard.

On the social front, the party will reiterate its resolve to provide reservation to the Dhangar community which the state government could not implement in the last five years citing legal hurdles.

The party may also promise introduction of a separate reservation for poor and economically backward people in its manifesto.
